Smoke Mountain Jeep Safari (Duman Mountain)

Travel from Sea Level to the summit of Duman at 6000 feet in the Taurus Mountains by jeep. (1990 m) Most of the day is spent on forest tracks and high mountain trails.

The first stop after about 20 minutes is the old farming village of Bezirgan in the hills behind Kalkan you can see warehouses in this village. From Bezirgan the route leaves the road and follows a forestry track through cedar woodland. the track becomes steeper eith unbelievable views across truly wild country. On the west you can see coast and the long beach of Patara and Olu Deniz. On the east the impressive White Mountain and below it the cliffs at the top of the Saklikent Gorge.

We stop for a liesurely barbecue lunch on the summit after which we begin the descent towards Saklikent. The route follows a series of high mountain trails and passes a number of traditional mountain settlements and it ends high above the entrance to Saklikent Gorge. We ariive at Saklikent at around 16.00 in time for a well deserved drink and a chance to wash off the dust of the descent in cool mountain spring water.

Remember at certain times of the year it can be quite cool at almost 2000 in and it would be advisable to bring some varm clothing.
